The History of Japanese Music Culture:

a set of lectures

2013 February-May

The Japanese Culture Department

of the State Foreign Literature Library of the Russian Federation:

Lecture Hall

Moscow, Nikoloyamskaya Street, 1: Central Entrance, 4th floor

This set of lectures aims to make a survey of Japan’s musical traditions which have been developing for over a thousand years. Japanese traditional music — both secular and religious, for voices and instruments, for one or several performers — represents its infinite variety and is of interest not only in and of itself but also in the context of Japan’s life, history and culture.

Various video and audio recordings, as well as photos, will be shown during the lectures. Japanese traditional musical instruments, such as koto, shamisen and shakuhachi, will be demonstrated.

The lecturer is Mrs. Natalia Klobukova
